First though, we had to fit in a leisurely lunch and I knew just the place ... "The Goatshed" at Fairview has long been on my 'hot list' as a lunch spot and have to admit that any friends that visit me from overseas can guarantee this will be on the agenda! Firstly, the estate its self, apart from enjoying one of the most stunning settings in the world, it not only produces fabulous wine, but awarding winning cheese too, including goats cheese (not my cup of tea!) which is made all the more authentic, by the goats tower that takes centre stage infront of the restaurant.
It is nothing fancy ... infact it is the simplicity that makes it such a great place, the type of concept that is so basic, you wish you had thought of it yourself! When you sit down, there is a pre-printed pad with about twenty different Fairview cheeses to choose from ... for just R50 per person, you can choose a single platter with 8 of your pre-chosen cheeses served on a board and this includes half a loaf of freshly baked ciabatta bread! Add this to a glass or two of Fairview's 'Goats do roam' rose at just +/- R45 bucks (a bottle) ... some lovely Cape Sunshine and you have the perfect recipe to my idea of heaven!
Then again I am easily pleased in this department ... for those requiring something a little more imaginative, there is a great A La Carte menu to choose from too. The following morning after a delicious breakfast at Spier, we could not go home before enjoying a sunday morning stroll around the streets of beautiful Stellenbosch... and with the Jacaranda trees in flower at present, She was looking all the more spectacular....

To use the ironing analogy ... I am about half way down my pile now. Tomorrow I will continue and tell you about my eventful trip to Durban
