A few months back, The squeaky clean ex Springbok Rugby hero, Joost van der Westhuizen, also a well known sports presenter, model father & husband not to mention a great mentor for a huge percentage of the young male population in SA had nearly the whole country feeling sorry for him, as suddenly he was a victim of a scandal that had involved the release of a certain video featuring a gentleman looking very much like him, lying on a bed in his underwear next to an equally naked woman whilst both snorting what looked like an ileagal substance!! Joost made statements in every newspaper and magazine going that this was some sort of sick joke and that there was no way on this earth, that he would ever cheat on his TV personality wife, Amor ... and the sheer thought that he would be involved in any kind of drug taking, having been a professional sportsman was nothing short of ridiculous. They were after all, South Africas answer to 'Posh & Becks'. He insisted that it had to be some kind of lookalike who had seized an opportunity to make a quick buck. He even hired a private detective to find this person!! The scariest thing of all, is that I am usually the first person to believe that if there is smoke there is almost definitely fire ....but I also believed him. Like the rest of the nation,I wondered who would be so unkind and devious as to try and ruin his career and marriage like that? Surpringly enough, it all died down and issues like the recession & Jacob Zuma seemed to take precident ... another reason to believe that it had all been one big fat lie.Until today that is ...

Joost's Biography has just been released and todays newspaper printed the following extract :
"Just over three years ago I made the biggest mistake of my life. I did something I will probably regret the rest of my days. Against all my principles, I had a sexual liaison - we never had intercourse - with a woman who was not my wife. And we took drugs." (He forgets to mention that his wife was also pregnant at the time!!)
He is not the first man,a wellknown one at that, to do this ...that would risk everything they had that was good in their life for a few moments of adulterated pleasure and I am damn sure he will not be the last. It's not even the fact that he will now make a HUGE amount of money from this scandal when the sales of his book goes through the ceiling ... The biggest problem that I have, is that he made fools out of all of us and cannot help think that when the whole of SA was feeling sorry for him, he was probably sat there laughing at all of us - Shame on you Joost!
