Why red wine and yachts do not mix ....

Another busy week .... We had the official opening launch party of Grand Dedale on Thursday, which was a great success (see news section of my website www.somewheresouth.co.za)and almost as if to say a big 'Thank you' The owner of Grand Dedale and Doolhof wine estate Dennis Kerrison and his wife invited Tina, Angelo and myself .... not to mention a couple of special clients out on their yacht for the afternoon. My first thought of course, was that I would actually rather catch up with some work in the office, Mondays usually being my admin day and also being month end I had reports to do... but once again, it would have been rude to decline!! Nevermind... I guess someone has to do it! We met in the Bascule bar, which is the trendy basement hang out at The Cape Grace Hotel, that looks out onto the marina. We enjoyed a delcious light lunch, but I could not help noticing that after a gorgeous week weather wise, the wind had suddenly picked up today and it did not look the most ideal sailing conditions. As I tucked into my chicken wrap ... I quietly hoped that this would be the last time I would see it!I had never suffered from sea sickness before, but guess there is a first time for anything!
We soon set sail and realized exactly how windy it was ... a few of us though decided to brave it up on the top deck, but in actual fact, it was wonderfully sheltered, the wind minimal and the sun nice and hot. As we cruised along, it was fabulous to see all the places we know so well, but from a completely different viewpoint. As we sailed past the famous Clifton beaches with the white sand and turquoise ocean, I do recall having one of those 'I love my job' moments ... however, this was not to last. As the captain turned the boat around to head back, sadly being a little too rough to anchor there as Dennis had hoped ... a huge wave came crashing over the side ... well ok, not that big ... but it was enought to drenched myself and Heather, a tour operator friend also on board from head to foot!! Doolhof Sauvignon Blanc went flying everywhere! All I could think, was "thank god it was not red". I was about to chicken out and go downstairs thinking how they were probably oblivious to the shannagins on top, but then I was reminded that I did not get to do this everyday ... so happily sat there and dried off in the sun, hoping that this was the only big wave of the day! Luckily that was it ... we dried out nicely by the time we were called to join them downstairs for some snacks. As I entered the lounge on the bottom deck ... I only had to look at Dennis's shirt to realise we had not been alone when the boat had been temporarily rocked , He looked like he was promoting tie dye shirts - with what were obviously the remains of a very large glass of red wine all over him! Somehow he had managed to miss getting one drop on the white carpet. "Phew" ... I thought to myself, and being known for my clumsiness ... "Now if that had been me ... there would have been more than wine on the shirt ... once again ,thank god I stuck to white!". We slowly sailed back into the waterfront marina ....and back to reality, I suddenly remembered those reports still had to be done!!
